Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn
The Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn (WKO) is considered one of Germany’s most important chamber ensembles, combining regional roots with international appeal.
Founded in 1960 by Jörg Faerber, the orchestra has steadily expanded its aesthetic range under the baton of conductors such as Ruben Gazarian, Case Scaglione, and, since 2024, Risto Joost, establishing itself as a stylistically critical interpreter of both classical and contemporary works. Regular collaborations with internationally renowned soloists such as Rudolf Buchbinder and Sabine Meyer, as well as guest performances in major concert halls – such as the Concertgebouw and the Elbphilharmonie – underline its standing in the European music landscape. Its close ties to outstanding personalities of the younger generation are reflected in the “Artistic Partner” and “Young Artist in Focus” collaborations.
With a wide range of music education initiatives, the WKO fulfills not only a representative but also a culturally educational function. Its portfolio is rounded off by numerous CD recordings, many of which have won awards, such as the CD with works by Frank Martin, which was recently awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize 2025.
