Roberto Di Marino - Komposition

Roberto Di Marino  |  Composer  |  Italy

Roberto Di Marino was born in 1956 in Trento, Italy. He received his musical training at the Conservatory of Trento where he graduated in composition, choral music and choral conducting, jazz and arrangement for windband. As a composer he has won several competitions. His arrangements and original compositions are internationally performed. Some of his works are included on three CDs recently recorded by an ensemble formed by members of the Berliner Philharmoniker with the Japanese violinist Iwao Furusawa. He teaches at the Conservatory of Verona and lives in Garniga Vecchia (near Trento), where he spends most of his time composing and arranging music.

At our festival ‘Piazzolla Reloaded’, the audience will experience Di Marino’s ‘Double Concerto’ in three movements for accordion and guitar. He writes of this work himself:

I often seek to combine classical forms with contemporary musical language. In this Double Concerto, the structure follows the classical three-movement sonata form, while the musical content draws on the idiom of the tango. The form is austere and disciplined, almost academic in character, whereas the musical language is passionate and, in some respects, transgressive. As in drama, such encounters can sometimes give rise to something entirely new.
At other times, these opposing elements resist integration. Yet on occasion, a genuine synthesis emerges—and when it does, the result is particularly compelling.
