INSPIRATION PIAZZOLLA – planning our festival 2027

Following the huge success of PIAZZOLLA RELOADED in June 2026, PANTONALE e.V. is planning a festival for next year at which Astor Piazzolla’s fascinating musical world will once again be celebrated, further developed and projected into the future. Under the title INSPIRATION PIAZZOLLA, his musical legacy will be given a contemporary interpretation and reimagined by international stars from the world of the accordion and bandoneon.

A particular focus will be on the prize-winners of the International Competition ASTOR PIAZZOLLA® 2027. The two best new compositions from the competition are to be premiered at our festival in the Berlin Philharmonic. We also anticipate further personal highlights from the two winners of the ‘Soloists’ category, who are also due to perform at the Philharmonic.

Further highlights of the gala concert include the world premiere of a new composition by the Peruvian bandoneon virtuoso and composer Claudio Constantini, and a performance of Richard Galliano’s suite ‘Contrastes’ by Dominique Emorine (accordion) and Alessandra Doninelli (cello), accompanied by a chamber orchestra conducted by Miran Vaupotić. The compositions by Constantini and Galliano blend diverse cultural influences, transcending the usual boundaries of musical genres, and open up new perspectives on the sonic possibilities of the accordion and bandoneon.

Astor Piazzolla’s own compositions will also feature prominently in the concert: as things stand, Maria Vlasova is set to perform ‘Le Grand Tango’, whilst Bogdan Laketić will perform Piazzolla’s ‘Three Tangos for Bandoneon and Orchestra’. This creates a musical dialogue between Piazzolla’s great works, new compositions and the artistic personalities of the present day.

We are planning an Opening Concert on 27 February 2027 at the Jesus-Christus-Kirche in Berlin-Dahlem, as well as a Grand Gala Concert on 22 April 2027 in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic.

The internationally acclaimed accordion duo Dominique & Roman are on the programme for the opening concert. With their extraordinary interplay, the two musicians blend different musical traditions and open up a fascinating European soundscape.

The artistic director of the PANTONALE Festival is the conductor Miran Vaupotić. With his international experience, his passion and his keen sense for musical encounters, he brings together the festival’s diverse artistic worlds.

PANTONALE sees itself as a place of exchange, encounter and musical discovery – a festival that preserves great traditions, opens up new perspectives and brings together artists from different countries and cultural backgrounds.
