Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn

Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn

The Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn (WKO) is considered one of Germany’s most important chamber ensembles, exemplifying a combination of regional roots and international appeal. Founded in 1960 by Jörg Faerber, the orchestra has steadily expanded its aesthetic range under the baton of conductors such as Ruben Gazarian, Case Scaglione and, since 2024, Risto Joost, distinguishing itself as a stylistically critical interpreter of both classical and contemporary works.

Characteristic of the WKO is its combination of chamber music transparency and orchestral sonority. Regular collaborations with internationally renowned soloists such as Rudolf Buchbinder, Gautier Capuçon, Sabine Meyer, Frank-Peter Zimmermann and Arabella Steinbacher, as well as guest performances in major concert halls – such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg – underline its standing in the European music landscape.

Its close ties to outstanding personalities of the younger generation are reflected in its collaborations with ‘Artistic Partner’ and ‘Young Artist in Focus,’ which currently include Frank Dupree and Hans Christian Aavik. With a wide range of music education initiatives, the WKO fulfils not only a representative function, but also a culturally educational one. The portfolio is rounded off by numerous CD recordings, many of which have won awards, such as the CD featuring works by Frank Martin, which was recently awarded the German Record Critics’ Award 2025.
