The Argentine composer Sonia Possetti won first prize in the 2026 ASTOR PIAZZOLLA International Competition with her composition “Al Demonio”. It will receive its world premiere at our “Piazzolla Reloaded” festival. Sonia Possetti describes her approach and its connection to Astor Piazzolla’s compositions as follows:

“Al Demonio” features intimate solo passages and tutti sections of greater textural and sonic density. The composer takes underlying elements from the Piazzolla and tango traditions, she plays with them, constructing and deconstructing, expanding their boundaries. "The work proposes the impulse to abandon the known, to rebel, in order to go through the hell of uncertainty.” Thus, the work is situated within the language of contemporary tango, music inspired by Piazzolla's imprint, from most recognizable aspects, but primarily in its essence: risk, conviction, passion, rhythm, tango.
