PANTONALE Friedenstraum

PANTONALE FESTIVAL 2024 – DREAM OF PEACE

Pantonale e.V. has been successfully organising the international accordion festival PANTONALE in Berlin for ten years, celebrating the variety of sounds and expressiveness of the accordion. Given the impact of the war in Ukraine, we have been organising our festival since 2022 as a musical peace festival with international artists from Ukraine and Russia.

For the 10th anniversary, we would like to give this festival from May 17th to 25th, 2024 the motto “Peace Dream” and thus take up the composition “Peace Dream” by the Spanish composer Gorka Hermosa. In addition to the opening concert on May 17th, the highlights are planned concerts on May 24th in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic and on May 25th, 2024 at the Brandenburg Gate.

The predominant themes in the compositions are love and death, war and the hope for peace, which have become more relevant than ever for the musicians due to the events in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The musical focus of the upcoming festival will be the presentation of the diversity of compositions in classical modernism and jazz. A special feature is the role of the accordion in concert performances, which has so far rarely been heard in concert halls, but also in the various ensembles in which the accordion is presented. Here, too, we want to break new ground with the 2024 festival.

We are pleased that we were able to win the following composers and their works for our festival:

  • the continuation of the concert “Peace Dream” by the Spanish composer Gorka Hermosa,
  • the concert “Small Triptych” for accordion and string ensemble by the Israeli composer Artem Nizhnik,
  • the concert for accordion and string ensemble by the German composer Vladimir Genin,
  • the “Jazz Suite” for horn, accordion, piano and string ensemble by the Russian composer Eduard Akhanov,
  • the suite for viola and accordion by the Polish composer Mikolaj Majkusiak.

The plan is to once again bring together on stage international musicians from Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia, Serbia, Russia, Spain, Israel and Germany to set an example for peace.
